Web Standards

Web standards are elements in a web site that are used commonly enough that people expect to see them. Web standards are important helping users know what to expect reducing confusion. Users don’t miss important things because they know where to look, having seen the same basic interface hundreds of times before. Some examples that I have used in my site are a logo in the top left corner, tabbed navigation on the top, and sub-navigation on the left side. Elements I plan to add are a shopping cart link on the top right corner and a related product navigation on the right side.

Usability

Using conventions or things that people are used to seeing improved the usability of my site. People more and more are using the web to make purchases so applying certain conventions to my web site allowed for a simple user-friendly interface.

SEO

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is key for a marketing website what’s the use having a shopping website if no one can find it? One way I improved the search engine optimization is repeating as many times I could “Janitorial tool belt” as many times as I could because that is what someone would type in if they were looking for a product like mine.

ROI

ROI or Return On Investment is the basic reason for my site, generate profit I have used my fathers new state of the art janitorial tool belt as my first client. What is important to the client is how much money can they make from their site they have purchased. Using an appealing design gives the user a general feel for quality that is passed on to the users view of the product itself. (you could have the best possible quality product but if your design screams junk the user will see junk and not buy) Next using conventions gives the user a familiar feel to the website where any hiccup can send the user off the site and thus losing the sale.
